Falcons explore affiliation options for 2010-2011 and beyond

The Springfield Falcons front office says it's heard from several NHL teams looking for a new affiliate for the 2010-2011 season, leading to widespread speculation that current parent Edmonton will be out of there after this season.

The Springfield Falcons front office says it's heard from several NHL teams looking for a new affiliate for the 2010-2011 season, leading to widespread speculation that current parent Edmonton will be out of there after this season .

The Falcons' current deal with the Oilers expands after the coming season. And team ownership says there's a chance the Oilers could be back in Springfield in 2010.

But it seems a little odd that the Falcons are hearing from potential AHL parents if the team doesn't have an opening in 2010. And NHL gossip circles the way they are, we think it's highly unlikely NHL teams would just be calling out of the blue to put teams in Springfield.
