Madison Square Garden officials unveiled the latest plan for renovations to the historic facility: a two-year process that will likely exceed the original $500 million price tag.
The work will be done during two offseasons, with lower-bowl renovations slated to open for the 2011-2012 season and upper-bowl renovations slated for the 2013-2014 season. Originally MSG had envisioned doing all the work in one offseason — a plan that basically called for the construction of a new arena in five short months.
Work could begin shortly; MSG employees in the Garden are being moved to 11 Penn Plaza to clear the way for transformation of their offices to suite and club spaces.
