Western Collegiate Hockey Association leaders tabled a proposal to admit Bemidji State into the conference for the 2011-2012 season until another school can be found to even the number of teams.
The issue isn’t Bemidji State, a hot commodity after making the Frozen Four earlier this spring. Rather, the issue is finding another team to join the Beavers in order to keep the circuit at an even number of teams. And because no other school emerged, the Beavers will play as an independent in 2010-2011 and in the final year of College Hockey America in 2009-2010.
Bruce McLeod sounded optimistic about adding a team along with Bemidji State; the schools rumored to be interested are Northern Michigan and the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
