Reno takes first steps toward new arena

The Sparks (Nev.) City Council will spend almost three million dollars on land at a proposed marina development that can be used as the site of a new arena.
The Sparks City Council will spend almost three million dollars on land at a proposed marina development that can be used as the site of a new arena.

Sparks is located next to Reno, and the city has been working for years on bringing sports facilities to the marina area, first proposing a Class AAA ballpark for the area and now settling on a potential arena.

The arena would be part of the Legends at Sparks Marina development, spearheaded by RED Development of Kansas City, Mo.

The plans are preliminary, to say the least: no team has expressed interest in moving to the area, and it’s not clear there’s a ton of demand yet. But the land is available.
