Comcast-Spectacor has talked with Waterford Township officials about a replacement for the Spectrum in Atco.

It’s no secret that Comcast-Spectacor has eyed Camden County as the home of a new arena to replace the Wachovia Spectrum, slated to be torn down in 2009. The latest reports have Comcast-Spectacor focusing on a specific site in Waterford Township: the former National Amusement cinema site at 178 White Horse Pike. Last month Comcast officials met with officials with the Camden County Improvement Authority and a private developer.

Also under consideration: a waterfront site at Bellmawr.

The new arena would house the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL) as well as other concerts and events.
