Cambria County Commissioners have issued a call for private firms to manage War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Penn.
The Cambria County War Memorial Authority had been managing the facility, which serves as the home of the Johnstown Chiefs, but a study indicated a private management firm could do a better job of generating revenues. The county was forced to make up the revenue shortfall.
The firms were asked to bid on a five-year contract for facility management. They would also need to guarantee an ECHL team was part of the mix. The owners of the Johnstown Chiefs are facing their own financial crunch, saying they need almost $400,000 in community support to assure the future of the team.
