No surprise. Keeping the arena open year-round for a little more than 50 events annually costs the city money, despite some predictions that it could be run at a break-even status. While Sprint Center does fine in terms of revenues despite the lack of a major sports tenant, Kansas City is not a big enough market to support two arenas — the crux of Johnson’s argument, which seems to be borne out by the ledger books.
