Dort Federal Event Center upgrades unveiled

Flint-FirebirdsWith the hockey and basketball seasons coming upon us, there will be plenty of news about arena updates. Today we look at upgrades to Dort Federal Event Center, home of the Flint Firebirds (OHL).

Lots of change in Flint: We have a new OHL team in town, and we have more than a million dollars in renovations to Dort Federal Event Center. Some are public, but many, like the 5,000-square-foot locker room, are not, and it’s these spaces that have seen the most change. From MLive.com:

Some of the most notable changes shine through in the locker room area, with the player’s lounge, video room, trainer’s room and cutting-edge technology — all mirroring the NHL setup.

There’s a six-person saltwater hockey tub and cold tub for players to rehab their bodies; a media suite has been remodeled for the press; and a state-of-the-art scoreboard was installed earlier this month by Bob Ferrulo of HD Scoreboard in Buffalo, N.Y.

Flint’s video board is 7-by-14-feet wide and illuminates a clear picture for fans….

LED lights were installed to allow for better photography and high-quality television production along with new netting in both end zones and acrylic glass.
