First look at proposed new Allentown arena

New Allentown Arena{jathumbnail off}

Renderings and plans for a new Allentown arena to house the relocating Adirondack Phantoms (AHL) were unveiled by Mayor Ed Pawlowski yesterday.

The plan merges the old — the former Dime Bank building — with the new in what was certainly a challenging downtown parcel. Because of changes in grade on the site, the front entrance will be two stories high and the back entrance seven stories high, as the arena is basically being built into the side of a hill.

The total projected cost of the 8,500-seat arena: $100 million.

Plans also call for a team store, sports bar and other retail in the complex.

More from the Morning Call.
