New Louisville arena: profitable from the start

The numbers are in: The Louisville Arena Authority is expected to turn a profit on KFC Yum! Center for 2011, both in terms of capital expenditures and operating expenses. That's a pretty strong start for the new downtown arena and the home of the University of Louisville Cardinals.

A capital-budget profit of $1.4 million and an operating profit of $1.2 million is expected based on the budgets approved by the authority today. That's based on 94 events at the arena, but building manager AEG expects more -- maybe upwards of 140 events by the time all is said and done.
