The former home of the Dallas Mavericks will finally come down in December, but there won't be a dramatic implosion of the facility.

The former home of the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars will finally come down in December, but there won't be a dramatic implosion of the facility.

Demolishing the arena has been a year-long process, beginning last April and now slated to go to March 2010. The demolition has twice been delayed after unexpected materials -- Styrofoam and asbestos -- were found in the arena's infrastructure, forcing a more careful deconstruction of the place.

The December demolition work will take down the roof and four supporting columns. It won't be collapsed via implosion, but rather piece by piece.
