No naming-rights deal on horizon in Louisville

Talks continue between Team Services LLC and several firms over a naming-rights deal for the new downtown Louisville arena, slated to open in 2010.

A rep from the firm informed the Louisville Arena Authority that talks continue regarding a deal for the new arena, slated to host University of Louisville men's and women's basketball as well as concerts and other events. The firm, which is privately brokering the deal, estimated that a naming-rights deal can be consummated for over $2 million annually — and has guaranteed $14 million over 7 years. It's been a slow time for naming-rights deals: while the new Dallas Cowboys stadium will open this fall without a naming-rights deal, the new Omaha ballpark housing the College World Series recently closed a $2M/yearly naming-rights deal.
