These are the final days for Essex Memorial Arena, which opened in 1959 as an outdoor rink. These are the final days for Essex Memorial Arena, which opened in 1959 as an outdoor rink. The home of the junior Essex 67's became an enclosed arena in 1961 and was almost torn down in 2005 after an emergency closure caused by sagging walls and rotting supports.
